Cocoa Paste Market Size in Peru

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 200%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cocoa paste exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 105%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Argentina (X tons), the United States (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of cocoa paste exports from Peru, together accounting for 52% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +233.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Argentina ($X), the United States ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for cocoa paste exported from Peru worldwide, together accounting for 58% of total exports.

The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of cocoa paste increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +46.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 108%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cocoa paste imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +44.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 51%. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Ecuador (X tons) was the main cocoa paste supplier to Peru, with a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, cocoa paste imports from Ecuador exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Colombia (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Ecuador stood at +9.1%.

In value terms, Ecuador ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cocoa paste to Peru, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 7.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Ecuador stood at +5.9%.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average cocoa paste import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 31%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while the price for Ecuador totaled $X per ton.
