Concentrated Apple Juice Market Size in Peru

In 2021, the Peruvian concentrated apple juice market decreased by -68.3% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption recorded a deep downturn. Concentrated apple juice consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Concentrated apple juice exports from Peru soared to X tons in 2021, picking up by 42% on 2020. Overall, exports saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 250%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 350%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated apple juice exports from Peru, accounting for a 54% share of total exports. Moreover, concentrated apple juice exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), threefold. Panama (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to +51.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (-6.2% per year) and Panama (+34.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for concentrated apple juice exported from Peru were the United States ($X), Ecuador ($X) and Panama ($X), together comprising 75% of total exports. These countries were followed by Chile, which accounted for a further 11%.

Chile, with a CAGR of +71.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average concentrated apple juice export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -1.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 88% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of concentrated apple juice decreased by -49.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 233% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 214%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

The United States (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main suppliers of concentrated apple juice imports to Peru, with a combined 68% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Chile, Brazil and China, which together accounted for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +69.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Argentina ($X), Chile ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest concentrated apple juice suppliers to Peru, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Brazil, China and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep reduction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
