Crude Soybean Oil Market Size in Peru

The Peruvian crude soybean oil market contracted significantly to $X in 2022, waning by -17.2% against the previous year. In value terms, crude soybean oil exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 718%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Ecuador (X tons) was the main destination for crude soybean oil exports from Peru, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +6.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, crude soybean oil imports declined notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Argentina (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of crude soybean oil to Peru, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, crude soybean oil imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bolivia (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Argentina stood at +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bolivia (+19.8% per year) and the United States (+4.8% per year).

In value terms, Argentina ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude soybean oil to Peru, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bolivia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Argentina was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bolivia (+18.8% per year) and the United States (-1.1% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
