Ether Market Size in Peru

The Peruvian ether market shrank significantly to $X in 2022, waning by -15.8% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a slight descent. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of ethers, when their volume decreased by -8.2% to X tons. In general, exports recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 162%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ether exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 250%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Ecuador (X tons) was the main destination for ether exports from Peru, with a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, ether exports to Ecuador exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Colombia (X tons), threefold. Chile (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Ecuador totaled +5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+20.8% per year) and Chile (+5.9% per year).

In value terms, Ecuador ($X), Colombia ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for ether exported from Peru worldwide, with a combined 90% share of total exports. Bolivia, Costa Rica and Venezuela lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.8%.

Costa Rica, with a CAGR of +52.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average ether export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 119% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Costa Rica (+28.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, ether imports into Peru contracted to X tons, with a decrease of -7.5% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ether imports plummeted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 60%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest ether supplier to Peru, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, ether imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States totaled -2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+31.4% per year) and Thailand (+27.3% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ethers to Peru, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at -4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+24.6% per year) and Brazil (-2.6% per year).

In 2022, the average ether import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
