Ethanol Market Size in Peru

The Peruvian ethanol market was estimated at $X in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. The Netherlands (X litres) was the main destination for ethanol exports from Peru, with a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, ethanol exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X litres), eightfold. In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for ethyl alcohol exports from Peru, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands totaled +9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (-6.3% per year) and Colombia (-16.6% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ethanol imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the United States (X litres) constituted the largest ethanol supplier to Peru, accounting for a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, ethanol imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bolivia (X litres), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bolivia (+15.9% per year) and Brazil (+80.9% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ethyl alcohol to Peru, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States totaled -1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bolivia (+11.8% per year) and Brazil (+55.4% per year).
