China (X tons) was the main destination for seafood meals and pellets exports from Peru, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-13.2% per year) and Japan (-9.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs exports from Peru, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 4.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China amounted to +5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-12.0% per year) and Japan (-9.1% per year).

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Chile ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru
In 2021, seafood meals and pellets imports into Peru skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 136% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 253% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, seafood meals and pellets imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 240%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main suppliers of seafood meals and pellets imports to Peru, together accounting for 97% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +273.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Chile ($X) constituted the largest supplier of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs to Peru, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 9.3% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
