Leather Footwear Market Size in Peru
The Peruvian leather footwear market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, picking up by 60% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. Leather footwear consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Peru
In 2021, shipments abroad of leather footwear increased by 30% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 48%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, leather footwear exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 63%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) were the main destinations of leather footwear exports from Peru, together accounting for 75% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ecuador, Panama, Canada, the UK, Colombia, Venezuela and Spain, which together accounted for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for leather footwear exports from Peru, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Bolivia, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +7.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (-1.0% per year) and Bolivia (+17.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average leather footwear export price amounted to $X per kg, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The export price peaked at $X per kg in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Leather Footwear Imports
Imports into Peru
In 2021, the amount of leather footwear imported into Peru skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 58% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, leather footwear imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main suppliers of leather footwear imports to Peru, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Cambodia, India, Colombia and Bolivia, which together accounted for a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest leather footwear suppliers to Peru, together accounting for 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Cambodia, Colombia, India and Bolivia, which together accounted for a further 18%.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +13.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average leather footwear import price amounted to $X per kg, waning by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per kg, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per kg), while the price for India ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+14.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
