Fructose Market Size in Peru
The Peruvian fructose market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. In general, the total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. In 2021, approx. X tons of fructose and fructose syrup were exported from Peru; declining by -53.8% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fructose exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 88%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Colombia (X tons) was the main destination for fructose exports from Peru, with a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, fructose exports to Colombia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), twofold. Ecuador (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Colombia totaled -1.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+31.1% per year) and Ecuador (+2.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for fructose exported from Peru were Colombia ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 55% of total exports. Denmark, Ecuador, Canada and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.
Denmark, with a CAGR of +278.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average fructose export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 48% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fructose export price increased by +98.1% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru
In 2021, overseas purchases of fructose and fructose syrup increased by 59% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fructose imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest fructose supplier to Peru, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, fructose imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Argentina (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+36.9% per year) and the United States (-4.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fructose and fructose syrup to Peru, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+40.5% per year) and the United States (+0.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average fructose import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
