The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -2.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, molluscs exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 62%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main destinations of molluscs exports from Peru, together accounting for 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Japan, Russia, Italy, Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, Mexico and France, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for molluscs exported from Peru were China ($X), Spain ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 36% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +8.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average molluscs export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) increased by 135% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 191%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, molluscs imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 165%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United States (X tons), China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of molluscs imports to Peru, with a combined 93% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +119.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the largest molluscs suppliers to Peru, with a combined 91% share of total imports.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +100.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average molluscs import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 37%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
