In 2021, overseas shipments of soft drinks decreased by -13.8% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -23.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -25.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Chile (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from Peru, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, soft drink exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X litres), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Haiti (X litres), with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Chile amounted to +3.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+1.1% per year) and Haiti (+35.9% per year).
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for soft drink exports from Peru, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Haiti, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Chile totaled +3.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+4.2% per year) and Haiti (+36.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, increasing by 8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per litre in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru
In 2021, imports of soft drinks into Peru fell sharply to X litres, dropping by -35.7% compared with the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +22.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 91%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, soft drink imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 89%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
The United States (X litres), Mexico (X litres) and Switzerland (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Peru, together accounting for 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by Chile, the Netherlands, China, the UK, Ecuador, Guatemala, Italy, South Korea, Poland and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +147.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest soft drink suppliers to Peru were the Netherlands ($X), the United States ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Mexico, the UK, China, Chile, Italy, South Korea, Poland, Ecuador, Guatemala and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 34%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +145.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 27% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per litre), while the price for Chile ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
