Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, oils from coal tar imports fell notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of oils from coal tar to Peru, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, oils from coal tar imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States amounted to +4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-10.6% per year) and Germany (+25.1% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar to Peru, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 4.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 3.9% share.
