Exports from Peru

In 2022, the amount of optical fiber cables exported from Peru contracted modestly to X tons, leveling off at 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 682% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, optical fiber cables exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 266% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Chile (X tons) was the main destination for optical fiber cables exports from Peru, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, optical fiber cables exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Colombia (X tons), with a 6.8% share.

Imports into Peru

In 2022, approx. X tons of optical fiber cables were imported into Peru; with a decrease of -27.4% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 118%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 110% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest optical fiber cables supplier to Peru, accounting for a 78% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber cables imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), sevenfold. Vietnam (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +13.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+12.8% per year) and Vietnam (-9.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to Peru, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +7.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+10.9% per year) and Mexico (-7.5% per year).
