Pineapple Market Size in Peru

Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, pineapple exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 345%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for pineapple exports from Peru, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, pineapple exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Chile (X tons), with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled +34.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+52.0% per year) and Chile (+1.7% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for pineapples exports from Peru, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 1.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +24.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+9.6% per year) and Spain (+33.9% per year).

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of pineapples decreased by -24.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 195% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pineapple imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 664%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Colombia (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of pineapple imports to Peru.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +50.6%).

In value terms, Colombia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pineapples to Peru, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports.
