In value terms, pineapple exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 345%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for pineapple exports from Peru, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, pineapple exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Chile (X tons), with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled +34.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+52.0% per year) and Chile (+1.7% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for pineapples exports from Peru, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 1.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +24.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+9.6% per year) and Spain (+33.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pineapple export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (-7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of pineapples decreased by -24.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 195% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pineapple imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 664%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Colombia (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of pineapple imports to Peru.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +50.6%).
In value terms, Colombia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pineapples to Peru, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Colombia stood at +53.0%.
