In 2021, the Peruvian plastic household ware market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +56.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Bolivia (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic household ware exports from Peru, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Colombia, Panama, Mexico, the United States and Guatemala lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Panama (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Bolivia ($X) and Ecuador ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic household ware exported from Peru worldwide, together comprising 78% of total exports.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 39%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic household ware to Peru, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household ware imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Colombia (X tons), more than tenfold. Ecuador (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+5.8% per year) and Ecuador (+3.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastics household articles and toilet articles to Peru, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+3.1% per year) and the United States (+2.5% per year).

The average plastic household ware import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -17.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
