The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, preserved tomato exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 178%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for preserved tomato exports from Peru, accounting for a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, preserved tomato exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Chile (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands amounted to +16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+41.6% per year) and Chile (+33.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for preserved tomato exported from Peru worldwide, with a combined 89% share of total exports. Panama, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.
Among the main countries of destination, Venezuela, with a CAGR of +214.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average preserved tomato export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 65%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Venezuela (+40.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru
In 2021, the amount of preserved tomatoes imported into Peru soared to X tons, jumping by 19% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 56%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved tomato imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved tomato imports to Peru, with a combined 46% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina and the United States, which together accounted for a further 2%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +45.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Portugal ($X) appeared to be the largest preserved tomato suppliers to Peru, together comprising 53% of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina and the United States, which together accounted for a further 2.6%.
Among the main suppliers, Argentina, with a CAGR of +36.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
