Reclaimed Rubber Market Size in Peru
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Peruvian reclaimed rubber market, when its value increased by 70% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, showed a abrupt slump. Reclaimed rubber consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the amount of reclaimed rubber exported from Peru shrank sharply to X tons, which is down by -60.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 2,540% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 3,442%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Bolivia (X tons) was the main destination for reclaimed rubber exports from Peru, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, reclaimed rubber exports to Bolivia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Australia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X kg), with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bolivia totaled +85.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (0.0% per year) and the United States (+72.0% per year).
In value terms, Australia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for reclaimed rubber exports from Peru, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Australia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bolivia (+68.5% per year) and the United States (+86.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average reclaimed rubber export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, reclaimed rubber export price increased by +130.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+23.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Reclaimed Rubber Imports
Imports into Peru
In 2021, overseas purchases of reclaimed rubber were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 78%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Portugal (X tons), Spain (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of reclaimed rubber imports to Peru, with a combined 49% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Germany, Sri Lanka, the United States, Italy and China, which together accounted for a further 41%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of -0.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest reclaimed rubber suppliers to Peru were Germany ($X), Brazil ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 35% of total imports.
Germany, with a CAGR of +5.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average reclaimed rubber import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, reclaimed rubber import price increased by +77.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
