Colombia (X tons) was the main destination for rice exports from Peru, with a 61% share of total exports. In 2021, overseas purchases of rice decreased by -24.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 38%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, rice imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Uruguay (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) were the main suppliers of rice imports to Peru, together comprising 97% of total imports.
