Chile (X units) was the main destination for semiconductor LED exports from Peru, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, semiconductor LED exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Colombia (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Nicaragua (X units), with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Chile amounted to +55.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+135.4% per year) and Nicaragua (+17.2% per year).

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) exports from Peru, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nicaragua ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Chile totaled +49.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nicaragua (+52.0% per year) and Colombia (+112.2% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 217% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, semiconductor LED imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 196%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) was the main semiconductor LED supplier to Peru, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark (X units), with a 2% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Panama (X units), with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +29.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+234.0% per year) and Panama (+281.8% per year).
