Toothpaste Market Size in Peru

In 2021, the Peruvian toothpaste market decreased by -12.6% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Ecuador (X tons) was the main destination for toothpaste exports from Peru, with a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, toothpaste exports to Ecuador exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, El Salvador (X tons), more than tenfold. In value terms, Ecuador ($X) remains the key foreign market for toothpaste, denture cleaners and other dentifrices exports from Peru, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uruguay ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports. It was followed by El Salvador, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Ecuador stood at +73.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uruguay (+15.9% per year) and El Salvador (+17.5% per year).

Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 6.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, toothpaste imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Colombia (X tons), China (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main suppliers of toothpaste imports to Peru, together accounting for 85% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Spain and the United States, which together accounted for a further 8.7%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +48.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
