Unsaturated Acyclic Hydrocarbons Market Size in Peru

In 2021, after six years of decline, there was significant growth in the Peruvian unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons market, when its value increased by 8.5% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons was finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 1,973%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 2,450%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Chile (X kg) was the main destination for unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Peru, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Free Zones (X kg), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Chile amounted to +1.1%.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Peru, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Free Zones ($X), with a 30% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Chile stood at +2.6%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons export price decreased by -20.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Free Zones ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Free Zones (+8.3%).

Imports into Peru

In 2021, supplies from abroad of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons increased by 48% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 525% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, faced a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 402%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) was the main supplier of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons to Peru, with a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X kg), more than tenfold. Brazil (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-42.3% per year) and Brazil (-20.1% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons to Peru, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 7.6% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at -20.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-11.7% per year) and the Netherlands (-11.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -6.7% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons import price increased by +50.9% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+38.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
