Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, textile wadding exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Chile (X tons) was the main destination for textile wadding exports from Peru, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, textile wadding exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Chile totaled -5.6%.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for wadding of textile materials and articles thereof exports from Peru, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (+3.0%).

Imports into Peru

After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof decreased by -9.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 183%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, textile wadding imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 152% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest textile wadding supplier to Peru, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, textile wadding imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), threefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +39.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+6.5% per year) and India (+46.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest textile wadding suppliers to Peru were China ($X), the United States ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 87% of total imports.

India, with a CAGR of +45.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average textile wadding import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 17%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
