Wallpaper Market Size in Peru

The Peruvian wallpaper market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 360%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wallpaper exports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 481%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chile (X kg) was the main destination for wallpaper exports from Peru, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, wallpaper exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bolivia (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Nicaragua (X kg), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Chile totaled +19.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bolivia (+30.4% per year) and Nicaragua (+49.5% per year).

In value terms, Chile ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for wallpaper and wall coverings exports from Peru, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Dominican Republic ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Bolivia, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Chile amounted to +47.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Dominican Republic (+18.2% per year) and Bolivia (+34.1% per year).

The average wallpaper export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -26.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings increased by 24% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wallpaper imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Chile (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to Peru, together comprising 88% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +22.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wallpaper and wall coverings to Peru, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.7% share.

The average wallpaper import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
