In value terms, exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 662% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

The United States (X cubic meters) was the main destination for exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Peru, with a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X cubic meters), with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States stood at +10.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+18.4% per year) and Germany (-7.0% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates exports from Peru, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +64.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+27.9% per year) and Japan (+436.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, growing by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 498%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+48.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru
In 2021, supplies from abroad of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates increased by 98% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +83.1% against 2019 indices. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Portugal (X cubic meters) constituted the largest wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates supplier to Peru, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X cubic meters), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X cubic meters), with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled -12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+23.0% per year) and Germany (+14.7% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Peru, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Portugal stood at -6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+17.8% per year) and the United States (+1.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates amounted to $X per cubic meter, which is down by -10.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 68%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Spain ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
