The Philippine stationery market expanded slightly to $X in 2022, picking up by 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for articles of stationery exports from the Philippines, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at -20.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+34.5% per year) and Thailand (+49.6% per year).

The average stationery export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 125% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After four years of decline, purchases abroad of articles of stationery increased by 31% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 133% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, stationery imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 111%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest stationery supplier to the Philippines, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, stationery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), fourfold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -19.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+26.7% per year) and Indonesia (-0.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of articles of stationery to the Philippines, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+24.4% per year) and Indonesia (+18.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average stationery import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 184%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
