In general, exports continue to indicate a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby clothes exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for baby clothes exports from the Philippines, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, baby clothes exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), twofold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to -29.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-11.9% per year) and the UK (-14.3% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) exports from the Philippines, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled -20.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-5.6% per year) and the UK (-11.1% per year).

The average baby clothes export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -17.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 104% against the previous year. In 2022, after seven years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted), when their volume increased by 27% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, showed a dramatic setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 256%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby clothes imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 242%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main suppliers of baby clothes imports to the Philippines, together accounting for 68% of total imports. India, Turkey, Myanmar, the United Arab Emirates, Spain and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +88.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
