Clove Market Size in the Philippines

After three years of growth, the Philippine clove market decreased by -29.1% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted tangible growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of cloves, when their volume decreased by -35.3% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 236% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, clove imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Germany (X kg) were the main suppliers of clove imports to the Philippines, with a combined 98% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +358.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest clove suppliers to the Philippines were India ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 98% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +508.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average clove import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, clove import price increased by +23.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 67% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+32.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
