Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for coffee extract exports from the Philippines, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 88%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coffee extract imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest coffee extract supplier to the Philippines, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, coffee extract imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), sixfold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+84.2% per year) and Thailand (-14.3% per year).

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates to the Philippines, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia totaled +15.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+76.6% per year) and Malaysia (-11.1% per year).

The average coffee extract import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
