After five years of growth, the Philippine computing machinery market decreased by -1.6% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a significant expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, computing machinery production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 5.5%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof increased by 23% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 139%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, computing machinery exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of computing machinery exports from the Philippines, with a combined 65% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong SAR, China, India, Mexico, Poland, Australia, the UK and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof exports from the Philippines, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +7.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+14.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+2.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average computing machinery export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 206% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Philippines
In 2021, purchases abroad of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, computing machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of computing machinery to the Philippines, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, computing machinery imports from Hong Kong SAR exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Hong Kong SAR totaled +5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-11.5% per year) and Japan (-22.9% per year).
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest computing machinery suppliers to the Philippines, together accounting for 52% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +8.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average computing machinery import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 52%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
