The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, knitted fabric exports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 179% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Japan (X tons) was the main destination for knitted fabric exports from the Philippines, accounting for a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, knitted fabric exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cambodia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ecuador (X tons), with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Japan stood at +105.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+48.7% per year) and Ecuador (-68.4% per year).

In value terms, Japan ($X) remains the key foreign market for knitted or crocheted fabrics exports from the Philippines, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cambodia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 4.8% share.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
