In 2022, the Philippine lard market decreased by -11.2% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption saw a mild setback. In value terms, lard imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 228% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

The Netherlands (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of lard imports to the Philippines, with a combined 99.9% share of total imports.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
