Exports from the Philippines
In 2022, shipments abroad of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery decreased by -27.5% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 1,133% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, loading machinery exports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 915% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X units), Japan (X units) and Indonesia (X units) were the main destinations of loading machinery exports from the Philippines, with a combined 94% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +65.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for loading machinery exported from the Philippines were China ($X), Japan ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together accounting for 95% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +192.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average loading machinery export price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -11.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 205% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Norway ($X per unit) and Japan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per unit) and Indonesia ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Philippines
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery, when their volume decreased by -12.5% to X units. In general, imports, however, saw a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 124% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, loading machinery imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 76%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
China (X units), Japan (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) were the main suppliers of loading machinery imports to the Philippines, with a combined 76% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, Germany and Italy, which together accounted for a further 18%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +35.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) appeared to be the largest loading machinery suppliers to the Philippines, together comprising 76% of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, Germany and Italy, which together accounted for a further 18%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +78.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average loading machinery import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 74%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($X per unit) and Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Singapore ($X per unit) and Thailand ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
