Mango And Mangosteen Market Size in the Philippines
In 2022, the Philippine mango and mangosteen market increased by 0.1% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Mango and mangosteen production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The average yield of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in the Philippines contracted to X tons per ha in 2022, approximately equating the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the yield increased by 8.1%. Over the period under review, the average mango and mangosteen yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Exports from the Philippines
In 2022, shipments abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -19.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports saw a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 102%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of mango and mangosteen exports from the Philippines, together accounting for 65% of total exports. Canada, South Korea, the UK, Singapore and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Canada (with a CAGR of +17.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), the United States ($X) and Japan ($X) constituted the largest markets for mango and mangosteen exported from the Philippines worldwide, together comprising 65% of total exports. Canada, South Korea, the UK, Singapore and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +0.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
The average mango and mangosteen export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -12.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 44%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($X per ton) and Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Mango And Mangosteen Imports
Imports into the Philippines
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -27.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 2,801% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 10,408%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Cambodia (X tons) was the main supplier of mango and mangosteen to the Philippines, accounting for a 100% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand (X tons), with a 0.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Cambodia stood at +281.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-20.9% per year) and the United States (-28.9% per year).
In value terms, Cambodia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas to the Philippines, comprising 100% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 0.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Cambodia amounted to +306.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-34.4% per year) and the United States (-8.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average mango and mangosteen import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 1,585% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+29.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
