Mdf Market Size in the Philippines

In 2021, the Philippine MDF market increased by 14% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. Consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, MDF exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 128%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X cubic meters), China (X cubic meters) and Japan (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of MDF exports from the Philippines, with a combined 99.9% share of total exports.

From 2017 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +471.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the amount of MDF imported into the Philippines skyrocketed to X cubic meters, growing by 31% against 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, MDF imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2017 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

From 2017 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +21.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest MDF suppliers to the Philippines, together comprising 80% of total imports.
