The Philippine nickel and lithium accumulators market expanded markedly to $X in 2022, growing by 9.6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, showed significant growth. Nickel and lithium accumulators consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports from the Philippines
After three years of decline, overseas shipments of nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, lithium polymer and nickel-iron accumulators increased by 34% to X units in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 4,298% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, nickel and lithium accumulators exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 2,125% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X units), Ireland (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) were the main destinations of nickel and lithium accumulators exports from the Philippines, with a combined 78% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, China and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +83.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for nickel and lithium accumulators exported from the Philippines were the United States ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Ireland ($X), together comprising 70% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Ireland, with a CAGR of +72.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average nickel and lithium accumulators export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 6.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 92%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+18.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Philippines
In 2022, supplies from abroad of nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, lithium polymer and nickel-iron accumulators decreased by -1.6% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 133% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, nickel and lithium accumulators imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 189%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of nickel and lithium accumulators to the Philippines, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, nickel and lithium accumulators imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), twofold. Singapore (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 21% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +33.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+28.1% per year) and Singapore (+58.1% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Singapore ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest nickel and lithium accumulators suppliers to the Philippines, together accounting for 77% of total imports.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +99.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average nickel and lithium accumulators import price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
