In 2021, the Philippine plastic household ware market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. Japan (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household ware exports from the Philippines, with a 66% share of total exports. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 73%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest plastic household ware supplier to the Philippines, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household ware imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+11.6% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.8% per year).

In terms of the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +34.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
