In 2021, the amount of synthetic rubber (excluding latex) imported into the Philippines soared to X tons, jumping by 84% on the previous year. In general, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 130% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, synthetic rubber (excluding latex) imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of synthetic rubber (excluding latex) imports to the Philippines, together comprising 62% of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, China, Malaysia, Thailand and Russia, which together accounted for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +62.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest synthetic rubber (excluding latex) suppliers to the Philippines, with a combined 61% share of total imports. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 25%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
