Activated Carbon Market Size in Poland

For the third consecutive year, the Polish activated carbon market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.9% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 81%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, activated carbon exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for activated carbon exports from Poland, with a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, activated carbon exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with an 8.9% share.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for activated carbon exports from Poland, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +17.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (+210.5% per year) and Russia (-1.8% per year).

In general, export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, activated carbon export price decreased by -4.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 45% against the previous year. Imports into Poland

For the third consecutive year, Poland recorded growth in supplies from abroad of activated carbon, which increased by 8.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 58%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, activated carbon imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Belgium (X tons), China (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of activated carbon imports to Poland, together comprising 64% of total imports. Germany, the United States, the UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
