Stationery Market Size in Poland

For the fourth consecutive year, the Polish stationery market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -20.4% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 4.8% against the previous year. Stationery consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Stationery Production in Poland

In value terms, stationery production declined significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Exports from Poland

After six years of growth, shipments abroad of articles of stationery decreased by -4.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, stationery exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for stationery exports from Poland, with a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, stationery exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), fourfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany amounted to +9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+19.4% per year) and France (+15.8% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for articles of stationery exports from Poland, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +15.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+20.8% per year) and the UK (+21.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average stationery export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 19%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2022, approx. X tons of articles of stationery were imported into Poland; picking up by 21% compared with 2021. Overall, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, stationery imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 38%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest stationery supplier to Poland, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, stationery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+7.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+33.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest stationery suppliers to Poland were China ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports. South Korea, France and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.7%.

Among the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +45.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average stationery import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -11.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
