In 2021, the Polish artificial staple fibre market decreased by -22.3% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of artificial staple fibres decreased by -71.1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 2,577% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, artificial staple fibre exports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 1,611%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X kg), Italy (X kg) and Ukraine (X kg) were the main destinations of artificial staple fibre exports from Poland, together comprising 99% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +367.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for artificial staple fibres exports from Poland, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, artificial staple fibre imports into Poland soared to X tons, surging by 799% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 1,872%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, artificial staple fibre imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 1,384% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of artificial staple fibre to Poland, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, artificial staple fibre imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at -18.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+12.2% per year) and Estonia (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of artificial staple fibres to Poland, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to -14.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+10.1% per year) and Estonia (0.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average artificial staple fibre import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -7.7% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, artificial staple fibre import price decreased by -27.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 118%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
