Beer Market Size in Poland

The Polish beer market expanded slightly to $X in 2022, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After four years of growth, overseas shipments of beer decreased by -9.4% to X tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, beer exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of beer exports from Poland, together accounting for 35% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, the UK, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Romania, France, Norway, the United States, Lithuania and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 41%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Norway (with a CAGR of +84.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for beer exported from Poland were the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 34% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, the UK, South Korea, France, the Czech Republic, the United States, Norway, Lithuania, Romania and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 40%.

Among the main countries of destination, Norway, with a CAGR of +74.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average beer export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of beer were imported into Poland; growing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 39%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.7% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The Czech Republic (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main suppliers of beer imports to Poland, together comprising 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +200.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest beer suppliers to Poland were the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Mexico ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, Lithuania, Hungary, Italy and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 18%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Hungary, with a CAGR of +138.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average beer import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 15%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+23.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
