Germany (X tons) was the main destination for book cover exports from Poland, accounting for a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, book cover exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), more than tenfold. In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for blotting pads and book covers exports from Poland, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+12.4% per year) and Hungary (+12.3% per year).

As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, book cover imports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 186% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest book cover supplier to Poland, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, book cover imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +16.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-6.1% per year) and France (+36.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest book cover suppliers to Poland were Germany ($X), China ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 81% share of total imports. France, India, Malaysia, Austria and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.7%.

India, with a CAGR of +69.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
