Carbides Market Size in Poland

In 2022, the Polish carbides market increased by 22% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Carbides consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbides production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 65%. Carbides production peaked at $X in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In 2022, exports of carbides from Poland dropped to X tons, with a decrease of -14.3% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 100%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, carbides exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 173% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Luxembourg (X tons) were the main destinations of carbides exports from Poland, together accounting for 92% of total exports. France and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.2%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +105.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carbides export price increased by +123.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Poland

In 2022, approx. X tons of carbides were imported into Poland; declining by -5.8% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, carbides imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 45%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Sweden (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main suppliers of carbides imports to Poland, with a combined 54% share of total imports. Slovakia, the Netherlands, Russia, China, Ukraine, Japan and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +60.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Norway ($X), Germany ($X) and Sweden ($X) appeared to be the largest carbides suppliers to Poland, together accounting for 55% of total imports. Slovakia, the Netherlands, China, Russia, Ukraine, Japan and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +63.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average carbides import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
