Other Cereals Market Size in Poland

After two years of growth, the Polish other cereals market decreased by -5.6% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption saw a noticeable shrinkage. Other cereals consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Other Cereals Production in Poland

In value terms, other cereals production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

The average yield of other cerealses in Poland shrank to X tons per ha in 2021, reducing by -13.2% on the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the yield increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha, and then declined in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2021, approx. X ha of other cerealses were harvested in Poland; surging by 6.7% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. In 2021, the amount of other cerealses exported from Poland contracted dramatically to X tons, shrinking by -19.6% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 189% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, other cereals exports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 206% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of other cereals exports from Poland, with a combined 93% share of total exports. France, Luxembourg and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.5%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +263.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for other cereals exported from Poland worldwide, together accounting for 91% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Luxembourg and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 3.5%.

The average other cereals export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild decline. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Other Cereals Imports

Imports into Poland

In 2021, the amount of other cerealses imported into Poland reduced slightly to X tons, with a decrease of -4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 110%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, other cereals imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest other cereals supplier to Poland, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), fourfold. Lithuania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +12.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+1.4% per year) and Lithuania (-13.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of other cereals to Poland, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +16.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+109.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+3.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average other cereals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 28% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, other cereals import price increased by +101.3% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
