Chalk Market Size in Poland

The Polish chalk market reduced to $X in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Chalk Production in Poland

In value terms, chalk production shrank slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, posted a resilient increase. Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for chalk exports from Poland, accounting for a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, chalk exports to Lithuania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lithuania totaled +25.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+25.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+31.0% per year).

In value terms, Lithuania ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for chalk exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 59% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Latvia, Croatia, Hungary, Russia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Latvia, with a CAGR of +114.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average chalk export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, supplies from abroad of chalks increased by 125% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chalk imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.1% against 2019 indices. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Denmark (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of chalk imports to Poland, with a combined 91% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Denmark (with a CAGR of +11.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
