Chili And Pepper Market Size in Poland

After five years of growth, the Polish chili and pepper market decreased by -14.7% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted a significant expansion. Chili and pepper consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Chili And Pepper Production in Poland

In value terms, chili and pepper production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, posted modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 6.2%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the average chili and pepper yield in Poland declined to X tons per ha, waning by -14.7% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the yield increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha, and then reduced in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the chili and pepper harvested area in Poland declined sharply to X ha, waning by -16.3% on the previous year. Overall, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the harvested area increased by 48%. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of chilies and peppers (green) increased by 20% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -8.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chili and pepper exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Ukraine (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of chili and pepper exports from Poland, with a combined 39% share of total exports. Romania, the Netherlands, the UK, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, France, Slovakia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 48%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +289.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for chili and pepper exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 42% share of total exports. Romania, the Netherlands, the UK, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, France, Slovakia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

In 2022, the average chili and pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed modest growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, chili and pepper imports into Poland was estimated at X tons, flattening at the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -9.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 18%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of chili and pepper imports to Poland, together accounting for 91% of total imports. Turkey and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.8%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +65.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
