Romania (X tons) was the main destination for paper and paperboard exports from Poland, with a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, paper and paperboard exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lithuania (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Romania totaled +21.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-1.1% per year) and Lithuania (-20.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for paper and paperboard exported from Poland were Romania ($X), Russia ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 61% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +57.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average paper and paperboard export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 102%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Palestine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2022, supplies from abroad of paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) increased by 6.1% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after six years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 51%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paper and paperboard imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main suppliers of paper and paperboard imports to Poland, together comprising 73% of total imports. Switzerland, the UK, France, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, China and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +43.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest paper and paperboard suppliers to Poland were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Sweden ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports. Switzerland, the UK, the Czech Republic, China, France, North Macedonia and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
Among the main suppliers, North Macedonia, with a CAGR of +44.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average paper and paperboard import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
