The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 116%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Thailand (X tons) was the main destination for precious stone and pearl exports from Poland, with a 90% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany (X tons), with a 2.6% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Thailand amounted to +22.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+210.4% per year) and the UK (+211.3% per year).

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the key foreign market for cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones exports from Poland, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 0.2% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 0.2% share.

In 2022, purchases abroad of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones increased by 0.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, precious stone and pearl imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of precious stone and pearl to Poland, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, precious stone and pearl imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+33.8% per year) and India (+19.9% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones to Poland, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from India amounted to +18.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+14.2% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-16.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average precious stone and pearl import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, precious stone and pearl import price increased by +21.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 53% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
