After nine years of growth, overseas shipments of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs decreased by -9.5% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, battered fish fillet exports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 28%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for battered fish fillet exports from Poland, accounting for a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, battered fish fillet exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled +7.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+9.7% per year) and the UK (+0.7% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Denmark ($X) and the UK ($X) were the largest markets for battered fish fillet exported from Poland worldwide, together comprising 74% of total exports. Switzerland, Italy, France, the Czech Republic and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
Among the main countries of destination, Ireland, with a CAGR of +102.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average battered fish fillet export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 12%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Switzerland ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2021, battered fish fillet imports into Poland shrank to X tons, which is down by -6.1% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 79% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, battered fish fillet imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of battered fish fillet to Poland, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, battered fish fillet imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lithuania (X tons), with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +17.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+138.9% per year) and Lithuania (+60.5% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs to Poland, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +19.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+122.5% per year) and Lithuania (+51.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average battered fish fillet import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 9.6%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Germany ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
