In 2021, the Polish hot-rolled steel products market decreased by -4.2% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports enjoyed a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hot-rolled steel products exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for hot-rolled steel products exports from Poland, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, hot-rolled steel products exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), fourfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Czech Republic totaled +3.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+24.9% per year) and Germany (-9.2% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for flat-rolled products of iron or steel (not further worked than hot-rolled) exports from Poland, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Czech Republic amounted to +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-4.6% per year) and Hungary (+28.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average hot-rolled steel products export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 59% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
Hot-rolled steel products imports into Poland skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 24% on the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +16.9% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
Ukraine (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of hot-rolled steel products imports to Poland, together accounting for 49% of total imports. Germany, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark, Serbia, Finland and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +77.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Russia ($X) were the largest hot-rolled steel products suppliers to Poland, together accounting for 43% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Sweden, Italy, Latvia, Denmark, Finland, Serbia and Romania, which together accounted for a further 47%.
Serbia, with a CAGR of +83.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average hot-rolled steel products import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 53% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
