The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The UK (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main destinations of fresh whole chicken exports from Poland, with a combined 63% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Bulgaria, Latvia, Belgium, Slovakia and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +239.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fresh whole chicken export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to the UK ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, supplies from abroad of fresh or chilled whole chickens increased by 501% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 2,091%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 552%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest fresh whole chicken supplier to Poland, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, fresh whole chicken imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), fourfold. Hungary (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +123.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-42.6% per year) and Hungary (-9.6% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +111.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-40.8% per year) and France (+33.7% per year).

In 2021, the average fresh whole chicken import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -29.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 136%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
